CHICAGO, HERE I COME

Monday, August 10th, 2009

This Friday, August 14th, I plan on driving to Chicago, IL to stay with friends until Wednesday, August 19th. I am really looking forward to seeing my good friends, hanging out, walking around town, seeing the sights, going to some art museums, taking in the culture and going on numerous photo adventures around the city when my friends are working. I plan on carrying my new, small Canon 780IS around with me everywhere so I don’t miss a beat. It should be a great time, as I have not taken a real vacation in a very long time. Look for a new Chicago gallery upon my return.

MANKATO DAY TRIP

Monday, August 10th, 2009

This past Saturday, August 8th, I took a day trip down to Mankato, MN to meet with William Bukowski of Bethany Lutheran College. After seeing the space where I will be showing my work, Bill’s office, a few stops around campus, having a few slices of delicious pizza, Bill brought me to Sibley Park where he has spent many, many days painting away his mornings. It was a definite sight to see, just as Bill has so accurately captured it in all of it’s glory through his many paintings. Afterwards, we parted ways and I went on my own journey around Mankato taking picture after picture, block after block, and even getting lost here and there. When all was said and done, I took over 140 photos and walked away with some very nice photos that I am happy with. Some of which will be posted in a gallery on Flickr soon. Here’s a teaser for now…

FIRST PUBLISHED EDITORIAL WORK

Monday, August 10th, 2009

My very first published editorial photo can be seen in the summer edition of Parsons Electrical Connection magazine. I was hired to take a 3/4-page photograph of the new Twins scoreboard at Target Field. Over several days and nights, I was finally able to find just the right lighting and just the right angle to feature the scoreboard in the best situation possible, even though the field is not open yet.

100TH MONKEY SHOW

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Five of my RNC protest photos taken in September 2008 in St. Paul, MN have been selected to be in a group photography show titled ‘America?’ at The 100th Monkey Studio located in Portland, OR. The show runs from July 3 – August 2, 2009. The show deals with the following: How do you see America today? How has our history influenced those currently living here? What do you see for the future of America? One of my photos (the photo of the hands in the upper left) has been selected to be the photo used in promoting the show on the postcard and other various marketing materials.

STREETFETISH.COM

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I was recently accepted to be a member of the photoblog website based out of the Netherlands called ‘Streetfetish.com‘. Each month a different photographer member chooses a theme, ie. ‘movement’, and each photographer member must submit a few photos working within the confines of this chosen theme. From there, the members and non-members alike make comments about the work submitted. I highly recommend checking it out. I look forward to shooting with a specific, different concept in mind each month.

NEW PHOTO PROJECT ‘100×500′

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I just completed my latest personal photo project and I invite everyone to view my work on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cbart/sets/72157614401183153/

Developed by Nathan Winter ‘100 within 500′ is a personal photo project composed of 100 photos within 500 yards of our individual work places’. I work in downtown Minneapolis and my goal was to capture a wide variety of images that best represent downtown in a unique, interesting and different way. The project forced me to examine my surroundings in a very thorough way and I enjoyed working within the structure of the concept.

The dust has settled and we have a new president. But at this writing we haven’t yet elected a senator – such is the american political process. No question the rhetoric got intense, much money was spent, but despite this strange ritual hopefully the best candidate got elected – unfortunately we know in many cases that didn’t happen. IFP presents a range of views of the process by 10 photographers, from the myth of power to back stage at the RNC (and riots) in St. Paul to the senatorial election recount. Two video makers have collaborated on a film “Art is patriotic” inspired by extraordinary response of the art community to the RNC presence in our midsts. Please join us for the Friday, January 16, 5:30-8pm opening to take a 20:20 look back before we all roll up our sleeves and work together to get US out of our present mess.

CHICAGO ROAD TRIP

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

November 26th – 30th

For Thanksgiving, some friends and I took a road trip to Chicago to visit our good friend and my old roommate. While there, we were able to see many great sights, take in a lot of the culture, hang out at cool bars & restaurants and see some of the great art exhibits. At the Art Institute of Chicago, I saw the amazing ‘Henri Cartier-Bresson Art and Photography of Paris’ exhibit. Afterwards, I walked across the street to the Chicago Cultural Center and took in another a great photography exhibit ‘Made in Chicago’ The Bank of America LaSalle Collection. I would highly recommend both exhibits. Even though we weren’t there for very long, I was able to snap off some great photos, some of which will soon be posted on the site. Chicago, I love ya, I can’t wait to see you again.

RECENT NEW WORK

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I have posted a new gallery in the ‘Recent Work’ section called ‘University and Snelling’. The photos are a sampling and an account of my recent excursion to that intersection in St. Paul, MN. I thought black and white was better suited for these images over color. After having one of the RNC galleries in black and white, I have had a keen interest in black and white and am experimenting with it more. Expect to see more work such as this in the near future.

RNC PROTEST PHOTOS

Friday, September 5th, 2008

September 1st – 4th

While the RNC was in St. Paul from Sept. 1st-4th, I attended the protests, rallies and marches and took over 2,000 photos of the people and events. The RNC protest events were very intense and moving. You could just feel the energy and buzz in the air, I am really glad I went. Originally, I went there just to take photos, but once I arrived, it turned into something more special and different than just taking photos. It was about the people, their beliefs and their right to be heard during this time. All of the people were so passionate, it was really easy to get inspired and to be moved by them. In the ‘Recent Work’ section, I have posted galleries of each day I attended.
